Ethicology: what is right and wrong?

Ethicology: what is right and wrong?

Ethics is a moral philosophy that guides individuals to decide what is wrong or right, good or bad and what comprises desirable behaviour in a particular set of social circumstances. In other words, it is a formal study of moral standards and conduct. The word ethics has been derived from the word ethos, which implies culture.

The culture cannot establish rules of ethics!

Something can be perceived as morally acceptable by a culture while at the same time being absolutely sinful. If something is sinful, it is wrong.

What is right and what is wrong is determined by God the Creator.

God is righteous. He is the standard for being and doing right. True ethics comes from Him.

Matt. 22:34-40

[34] But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
[35] Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
[36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
[38] This is the first and great commandment.
[39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
[40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The Case for Situation Ethics.

Does the situation that you are in have any bearing on whether or not your behavior is ethical or not?

What do the Scriptures say about this?
